Shortly before last year`s Fitger`s 5K, Evan Sieve`s father unexpectedly passed away.

Evan wondered if he should still do the race, but he knew his dad would want him to do it. So he drove 3.5 hours from home, finished in 26:56, and returned the next day for the funeral.

“I could feel his presence with me while I ran," Evan said. "After that, I decided that I would run the Fitger`s 5K every year as a tribute to him.”

This year, Evan upped the ante by signing up for the KP Challenge - the Saint Fennessy 4K, Fitger`s 5K, and Park Point 5-Miler & 2-Mile Walk.

“It`s so special to commemorate him by doing something I know he would’ve been proud of.”

What started as a spontaneous decision turned into an unforgettable experience at the Fitger`s 5K for Luke Konietzco

A teacher at Ordean East Middle School and member of the 148th Fighter Wing, Luke started running to help stay focused and prepared for both his jobs. Now, it`s become something more personal than professional.

“It’s one simple thing that makes me feel like I’m starting my day off right or ending it on a high note," said Luke, who often trains with his brother. “By running with friends or family, I have a support system that motivates me to keep going and achieve any goals we set out for ourselves.”
